Who We Are

Philip Hall, Director of Grantmaking

Phil Hall, a principal of GMA, is director of grantmaking and staff and advisor to independent, family, and corporate giving programs. Phil’s expertise includes the design of new giving programs, strategic grantmaking, and trends in the fields of education, race relations, and community development.

As a trusted advisor to ambitious donors, Phil has guided funding for the creation of a new community foundation, the strategic close of a New England charitable lead trust, and, throughout his career, venture funding for promising startup organizations.

Phil coordinates the GMA Funder Community, a pooled giving and learning exercise open to all and focusing on a different theme each year. He is the treasurer of Boston Education Funders, an interim trustee for the Paul and Edith Babson Foundation, and a past board member of Philanthropy Massachusetts.

Phil is a graduate of Marlboro College and Boston University, where he received a master’s degree in piano performance. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and running, spending time with family and friends, and communing with the great composers.
