Leadership Transition at GMA

GMA’s Board of Directors is pleased to share news of a planned leadership transition and to introduce the firm’s next chapter.

After three years of service as CEO, Susan Barry will retire from her role effective January 30, 2026. During her tenure, Susan led GMA through an important period of transition, strengthening the firm’s employee-owned structure and broadening its leadership capacity. We are deeply grateful for her vision, steadiness, and care for the organization.

Following a deliberate process, GMA’s Board of Directors has appointed Prentice Zinn, Senior Director, and Carolyn Rau, Director of Operations, as Co-Managing Directors, effective February 1, 2026.

Founded in 1982 as an employee-owned firm, GMA has a long history of shared leadership, collaboration, and continuity. These internal appointments reflect the firm’s practice of developing and elevating talent from within and drawing on the combined strengths of its teams.

Prentice brings deep experience in philanthropy, long-standing client relationships, and a strong strategic perspective. He is a trusted thought partner known for helping clients and colleagues look ahead to emerging opportunities and challenges in the field.

Carolyn brings extensive operational expertise and hands-on leadership across GMA’s internal functions. She is respected for her clear decision-making, approachable style, and deep understanding of how people, systems, and client service work together to support excellence.

As Chaletta Huertas, Chair of the Board’s Selection Committee, shared:

“After a rigorous and inclusive process, the Board is confident that this co-managing director model builds on GMA’s strengths and prepares the firm well for the future.”

Susan is working closely with Prentice and Carolyn to ensure a smooth transition. GMA remains fully committed to thoughtful partnership, operational excellence, and advancing effective, values-driven philanthropy.
